Chapter 15

Rilea, a Continent Ruined by Mistake

“ Let the mortal source harbor the flood of free faith, and let this faith be the source of all creation,” Nija said, the world around the [Harbinger] trembling as [Divine] words began to be scratched into the mithril in her hands. Even without her moving a muscle, the world itself was forcing the writing into existence. It was terrifying. “Become what we need, what we pray to, and what we serve. Become faith.”

A final flourish, a final wave of energy, and the feeling of all living matter in the vicinity temporarily existing on a different plane of reality were had before everything settled down. The dirty plates, the table, and Theo, who’d been sitting on one of the chairs, all fell back down onto the floor, gravity remembering that it was meant to pull on them once again. Yet even when they were all returned to their previous states, it all still felt different.

Especially for Sara, who was busy clutching at her head while muttering about stupid incantations.

“Do you need to say all of that stuff when you’re doing it?” Sara questioned, catching the [Healing Rune] Theo threw at her and immediately using it to help clear up the mental fog that had come to assault them all. “Not all of us can be in the room and listen in with those [Divine] words.”

“I never mean to say anything at all,” Nija replied absentmindedly, busy looking at the [Mithril] plate in her hand. When Theo reached out to grab it, she didn’t resist, letting him see the masterwork that had been fully formed. “When I want it to happen, the words just…flow out. I can barely understand what I’m saying myself. Did you hear it, Theo?”

It’s perfect.

“Somewhat,” he said, tracing the lines of the [Divine Word] with his right hand. It brimmed with energy already, golden lines beginning to manifest from all sides. He could see them all, thousands of them that were all attached to something on the other end. Or…somebody. “I was trying to ignore it by the end when my head started to hurt. You said something about…freedom of faith being the source?”

“That sounds about right,” the [Harbinger] said slowly, red eyes once again drawn to the now fully-fledged golden lines connected to the [Divine Rune]. A thousand were solid, but many more were steadily appearing, growing slower than the original group but still surely there. “That’s weird… Can I have it back?”

Theo gave it to her without hesitation, more interested in what she would do with the [Rune] than inspecting it himself. He was trying to keep his eyes on other parts of the room anyway. Even with [Divine Devotion] running at maximum capacity, he could feel the pressure steadily growing. They’d have to cover the [Rune] up soon or something, if they wanted to be able to sleep tonight.

Sitting back in the chair once again, Nija doing the same next to him, he watched as she reached out and grabbed one of the golden threads.
